To Bangalore

I simply couldn’t wait for the exam to get over… I still had more than half the paper to answer but my mind was somewhere else… Focus Focus and yet my heart would give little leaps of delight when it contemplated what would happen in the evening… somehow or the other, i finished off that paper and almost skipped out of the class room… One more grueling semester was over, but more importantly i was going to Bangalore tonight… in 24 hours, i would be in the Paradise called the Bangalore Ashram… A few blessed weeks of Guruji and Advance courses and Knowledge awaited me and this time i was taking with me a bunch of my students all friends from IIT B, about 15 of us were going to soak in the Bliss… Almost all of them coming for the first time!

I was hugging myself in delight… what fun it would be to take them around…  show them the Ashram, watch them when Guruji would meet them, dance and sing with them in Satsang… for the first time, i could share this wondrous world of the Bangalore Ashram with so many of  these people who i loved and who were so dear to me…

Suddenly we all were rushing to catch the evening train from Kurla… What a fantastic journey it was, we all did Kriya in the train… talked to anyone and everyone who cared to hear us about Art of Living and Guruji, ate all sorts of junk, sang loudly just about everything from bhajans and hindi film song to rock and andrew lloyd weber, admired the beauty of the passing landscape, had long discussions about all sorts of stuff… i now wonder exactly how we managed to do all this in the meagre 24 hours that we had on the train… and then the train chugged into Bangalore station… it was fairly late at night and as we disembarked, i still remember the excitement i would have when i would look up at the sky and see the stars. At that time, Bangalore was relatively clean, unpolluted and the stars would be brighter than anywhere else i had been… Those stars told me i was in Bangalore with just 20 kms and 7 hours between me and Guruji…

None of us had much money back then, and no rickshaw would anyways go all the way to 21st Lm, Kanakapura Road at that time of the night… so, we would go till Banashankari and then hitch rides to the Ashram in any vehicle going that way… trucks, milkvans, or those suffocating private buses… As always when we reached the Banashankari temple almost within seconds we got rides to the Ashram… In that rattle and shake, and noise and heat i would tell everyone to wait and watch out for their first glimpse of the Bangalore ashram… and about 20ish minutes into the ride, we crested a small rise, went around that now so familiar bend and the Ashram, cool, serene and with little pin pricks of light burst into view…

My heart sang. I was home!

Wow Bau. I almost relived some of my journeys through your post. We recently went to Kollam for Mahashivrathri and I could connect the eating junk, singing parts :-)

But it must have been quite different those times :-)

Lesson for me bao, if i am not able to travel comfortably then i skip the journey, if i am not able to comfortably travel and do seva.. in the past i have skipped it…the amount of love for the master, the deeper the longing more committed you are on the path…isnt it…

Now if we travel through the same roads, we find that we are losing the green cover and gradually its becoming a concrete jungle. Thanks to the development and industrialization in bangalore!!
