Sentosa Island

A lovely lunch, followed by a nap that extended a little longer than it should have meant that Dinesh, Lamba and me arrived at Sentosa Island just a little too late to catch the Dolphin show that i really wanted to see… They have the rare pink dolphins there, but our tardiness, along with a sudden downpour of rain and fairly bad signage at the main reception made us unfortunately miss the show :(

So, we went to the aquarium first, which has a touch tank, where you can put your hands in and the fish inside come and brush against your hands … its a very nice feeling :) and after this, i wonder how people go and eat fish later… its like petting your dog and then having him for lunch!

You can also stroke starfish… they dont move, they just stay there… and you can feed fish right out of your own hands!

We then went to the main aquarium area which has many strange and wonderful sea creatures in many tanks… lovely translucent jelly fish, strange worms that stick out of holes almost in unison, some impossible looking fish, can’t even begin to describe those… an amazing diversity… and then we went through the glass tunnel, which is basically an absolutely massive fish tank with fish over 8-9 feet long swimming lazily all around you and above you as you walk through… An incredible experience! There were even signs that said you could dive into the tanks with the aquarium feeding crew at certain times of the day, though none of us wanted to do that :)

They had a full body fish spa here which was unfortunately closed by the time we got there…

Then we went on to see the 4D show… which is a very silly, funny, pirate movie done in astonishing 3D… At parts when bees chase the unfortunate pirates, they fly right into your face… You end up waving your arms to fend them off and squirming in your seat… if someone falls in the movie, your seat gives a shudder and when someone falls into the water, they spray water on your face :) Was a GREAT show and really good fun :)

Wrapped up the Sentosa Island visit with the Sound, Light, Water, Fire, Laser show on the beach… Dazzling lasers, jets of water, explosions of fire, expansive water fountains, and a very short but pretty firework display at the end couldn’t quite make up for the lackluster music and contrived story of a common village youth managing to wake up a sleeping princess with the help of his pet fish… But all in all it was nice.

Lamba had not visited the Zoo and dinesh and i felt that he absolutely had to get his feet pedicured at the fish spa there, so we zoomed there to the night safari and were just in time to get him on the last tram and managed to get our feet pedicured for an extra long time coz we were the last customers :) Lamba of course loved it :)

A few thoughts on Singapore…

Singapore is squeaky clean. They have a very good road system, with signals that communicate with each other, so no signal is needlessly red! Anywhere to anywhere is seldom more than 20 minutes.

More importantly, every road, even the freeways and the highways have huge, lovely trees on each side, most time forming a lovely canopy. Quite a few roads even have these grand trees through the middle where the dividers are. One huge stretch of road has potted plants only through the middle… so that in case of an emergency, those plants can be moved and the road can become a runway for planes to land… just in case the airport has been compromised!

I had somehow always associated cleanliness with colder countries… but here in the tropical heat of Singapore was Switzerland clean (Switzerland is a place where there is a national emergency if a leaf dares to fall on the road:))… This just goes to show that when the government and the citizens care enough, cleanliness and hygiene are easily achieved… Though even in Singapore there are some extreme(ly) funny laws… like chewing gum is banned! :) I personally don’t like chewing gum at all, but all the same it is a weird law :)

Singaporeans are fiercely proud of their city and their culture. However, Spirituality still has to make deeper inroads here and i am pretty sure that’s going to happen quite soon given their drive to strive for the best for themselves… They are going to realize that they have been missing out on a very good deal by not learning and practicing Sudarshan Kriya and meditation :)

The last few hours were spent in hurriedly packing things into our bags and all too soon we were waving goodbye to all the lovely people who had come to drop us off at Changi airport.

Though Singapore is beautiful and loads of fun, we were glad to be going back to our beloved India, more precisely to out beautiful, serene home in the magnificent Bangalore Ashram! And when we finally stumbled into our beds that night… we knew for sure… There is simply no place like home!

Certainly, There is simply no place like home!!! I remember Him all the time saying how long can you enjoy external beauty..you need to revert back to the inner one!!!
I always wonder Bau, how do you get this kind of crazy correlations….there is a national emergency if a leaf dares to fall on the road… :-) Simply superb.. Bau, once again I am asking the same question.. Give us some guidelines on how to improve our sense of humour.. It works wonder all the time.. I remember you saying, meditation makes you to people like what an open pot of honey is to bees and then, every expression of yours brings smiles and laughter to others.. Bau, I know it’s not a joke to teach someone how to make a joke but I know for sure.. No boundaries for you!!!
Awaiting for super fantastic new year post..
    Lots of Love and Laughter..

Bau! even my memories were refreshed. I landed at Changi airport chewing a gum and my Jijaji & Akka had a shock of their lives.
Yes! Singaporeans have their own reasons for a ban on chewing gum. So do all of us with our own reasoning. . dont you agree?
