Peaceful Warrior

I had heard a lot about this movie, so finally saw it last night … and it was really nice!

A cocky, brilliant American gymnast Dan (I get straight A’s, my dad has tons of money, i am going to be selected to represent America for the Olympics, and i don’t sleep alone unless i absolutely have to) goes to a Gas Station to have his bike refuelled, meets an enigmatic old man there who does something that he cannot explain  … no i am not going to tell, watch the movie :)

 Dan

Dan...

The Old man (This is not a gas station, it’s a Service station. There is nothing higher in life than to Serve!) at the station is quirky, eccentric… and an expert on the mind. He is Erudition personified. Dan has found a private Guru. He goes through all the usual doubts. What do you get out of this? Are you part of some cult?  Are you some kind of hypnotist or magician? etc … Lines that we in Art of Living have heard so many times :)

and the Old Man

...and the Old Man

But, Dan cannot deny what he has seen. Nor the experiences the old man gives him every time he almost wants to quit… And slowly he starts to learn. And his gymnastics performance shoot through the roof…

But, the Old man remains a riddle, an enigma Dan cannot fathom.

Then something else happens that completely changes Dan’s outlook and attitude towards life…

It’s a fantastic movie. Of course there is some superb gymnastics on display, along with very nice music. But it’s so much more… Touching, tender and full of Life and Wisdom. Tastefully sprinkled with a few great laughs.

And perhaps the closest a movie has come to teaching the Art of Living course points! I especially loved the walk up the mountain towards the end :)

Please watch it. And it’s even better when watched in a group. Also don’t see the trailer and read anything else about it other than what i have written. Watch this movie without knowing anything about what its about, and let its charms unfold at it’s own pace…

BTW, it’s based on a true story.

Jai Gurudeva!

love

bawa

    Thanks Bawu…

Really waiting to watch this now…

Sometime back you wrote about Mamma Mia.. I was totally unaware about ABBA then…

But on seeing the movie..I enjoyed it sooooooooo much !!!
Mamma Mia also served as a wonderful introduction for ABBA’s music….

I am really grateful that I got introduced to ABBA’s music in such a beautiful way…
    Mamma Mia’s locations were exotic… And ABBA’s songs…pure pleasure

All in All a true treat !!

PS: Going to watch BOLT this weekend :) :) :)

Bau…do watch Kung Fu Panda also.
I am sure you and Dinesh will like it.

Only we (someone on the spiritual path and so fortunate to have a personal Guru guiding us and holding our hands all the time) can understand and relate the movie with our personal experiences.

    Please watch and comment.

PS: I watched enchanted after your review and loved every bit of it :)

  7. Mrigank says:

    Yep!

    Absolutely!

Even I liked the walk up the mountain…

Made me feel so grateful for the way a Guru takes care of a disciple.. not giving what they want but what they need…

Another sceene I liked was when he becomes “aware” of everything around him… every cell, every atom, the tiniest bit of the cosmos becoming “alive” n happening…..

  8. Mayank says:

Absolutely true! :) I’ve watched it, and made many of my friends see it. :) And then got them to the course! :D

Bau, the first thing I noticed was the picture..and underneath written “Dan”. I thought this must be another awesome AOL teacher and we r getting to know more about him..LOL!

  20. Shashank says:

I will definitely watch this movie.
Also, see this movie : “What Dreams May Come”. I had seen this movie quite long ago, and rented it out once again just yesterday…It still has the same impact on my mind as it had then.

  21. Jai Gurudev Bau!

The movie rocks! Here is what Dan Millan, tha author of the semi-autobiographical book on whom the character Dan is based, has to say on the movie “The Secret”

    http://danmillman.com/blog/?p=5

I did not say it better than he! We should show this movie instead of the “The Secret” to our friends. Sure!

    • Bawa says:

The Secret is also a very nice movie… but that desperate visualization is kindergartenish at best for a meditator :)
      Jai Gurudeva!
      love

  22. varsha says:

saw it…loved it and learnt soo much from !
‘the ones who are hardest to love are the ones who need it the most’…surely goin to turn that knowlegde into wisdom.

  23. Swati Arora says:

Bau i saw the movie and its awesome!!really so close to the course points..i think the move maker must have done a course of AOL and got inspired! :P i know its a true story..but its so much like the knowledge we get from AOL..

  24. Hoezy says:

Hi! I watched the movie, loved it and i bought the book ‘Way of the Peaceful Warrior’(of which the movie is based on) 2 days ago! I’m still at the beginning of the book but the experience is just as enjoyable as watching the movie, if not better :) BTW there’s also a prequel ‘The Journeys of Socrates’ and the sequel ‘Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior’ to the book. Enjoy!

  25. Viraj says:

I found this movie absolutely AMAZING, Bau !!
AS you have already said, on the lines of Art of Living.
    My favorite dialogue from it…..
“Everything happens for a purpose. You have to find the purpose”

    JGD,
    Viraj.

  26. Deepika says:
