Mamma Mia!!

I had been waiting to see this movie for a very long time… it’s been released in the US 2 months ago i think, but it has finally made it to Indian shores. JD, devang, harshal, rupal and me went to see it today afternoon… and what a smashing treat it was!

It’s a movie i think i am going to watch again and again… It made me laugh out loud, had tears of joy running down my cheeks, sing along loudly with the music and we all left the auditorium with a very satisfying warm glow in our hearts.

A very beautiful sun drenched island off the coast of Greece, a run down hotel, run by a single mum Donna (Meryl Streep) and her daughter Sophie. It’s the daughter’s wedding and a few days before the big day, she discovers her mum’s secret diary…

Spohie and the Diary that started it all

… in which she finds out, that she could have three possible fathers… and she does what any 20 year old would do… invites all three to the wedding! AND they all come… Not believable at all, but who cares?! It’s a movie not a logical mathematics class :)

Who is the father?!

Sophie is joined by two of her best friends who add to the chaos and Donna is joined by 2 of her best friends who come down to the island to celebrate Sophie’s wedding… The 6 women bring fire and tenderness and laughs and love alive on the screen… of a cherished and life long comfortable love that is palpable.

The men are really mostly scenery, but they are very nice participative scenery who give the space to the women to tell their tale…The tenderest moment for me was the song where Donna dresses Sophie for the wedding… and the funnest was when Donna’s friend (a flamboyant yoga loving 3 times divorcee) flattens all the young males who try to woo her… saying Yoga, you and me baby, we rock! :)

Donna and the Hotel

The entire movie is set to the very celebrated music of ABBA, and the story is very deftly weaved into the music with very little change to the lyrics… You will find yourself singing with the songs, something that is helped by the lyrics being shown on screen… It is quite a participative movie and i would really suggest you go see it with a group of people who want to have loads of fun… maybe even get up and dance! :)

The cast which includes the likes of Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Dominic Cooper, etc all of whom are actually singing… Pierce Brosnan is really bad :) , i am sure even i could have sung better than that, and thankfully he has only one song in the movie :) , but even so, i absolutely loved every minute of it… and i would have no problems at all going and watching it all over again with a big group of people who would sing along and dance along and have the time of their lives… and i suggest everyone does too…

The reviews out there for this gem of a movie are terrible, but i guess that just goes to show that most critics have simply forgotten how to have fun and are sorely in need of an Art of Living course :)

Go for this movie on Saturday this weekend, chances are you will end up in the theater once again on Sunday with a few more people you love, to share the fun and the joie de vivre…

A mother. A Daughter. Her Wedding. 3 Possible Fathers!

Jai Gurudeva!

love

bawa

PS As soon as it’s available on DVD, i will put it on my shop and you can buy it from there :)

    jai gurudev bau,
the virat and vasudha team also enjoyed mama mia on wednesday. With a lot of scepticism, we agreed on vasudha di’s request. But it was a true entertainer with lots of love, emotions, drama and yes – some lovely ABBA songs. I ‘ve become an ABBA fan all over again.

yeah Bau I saw it too!!
And I did sing along, the lyrics on the screen made it easier..
It was fun, the songs just spring out of prose dialogues!
And I too liked the song “Slipping through my fingers!” It conveys the feelings so well.
would love to see it again with you, and yes we can all sing and dance!
The tunes are catchy and left circling in my mind even after the show. Mama Mia, let’s sing along!

Who cares for the critic’s review…Meryl Streep was simply fabulous…especially for a woman of her age, the way she dances, runs, prances, jumps into the water for the song Dancing Queen….one of the most versatile Hollywood actress….JGD
