Not a surprize for me, knew it!
. According to Hindu calendar he was born on Vaishakha (masam) shuddha panchami (on a proper panchami day).
According to me its not a co-incidence that on the same day in 7th century (788) another shankara avtaar popularly known as Adi Shankara or the Shankara bhagavathpadacharya was born
That is the reason why Guruji’s parents named him “Shankara” they knew that this baby was no ordinary and it was another avtaar 
.
Today is celebrated as Shankara Jayanthi in Southern part of India (mostly all brahmins who associate themselves with the Shankara Math celebrate this day in a grand way). Infact if you go to any of the shankara math today you can see amazing celebrations… if you are in bangalore please visit Shankara Math in Chamarajapeth (old bangalore). So you see we celebrate this day every year…
