If Guruji wants any work done, He likes it done yesterday… Bau likes it done the day before. That’s how he came to the planet 40 years ago, a month before he was due 
His sense of urgency coupled with a style of having-all-the-time-in-the-world and topped (rather cherry whipped creamed) with a magnificent sense of vision, you end with one of the liveliest combinations on the planet.
When asked about the secret of his sense of Humor, he said, “My mom Aban has of habit of singing and cracking bad jokes when she is in pain. And that’s what she did when she was in labour and I was about to come into the world, so all those impressions must have stayed”. They have actually multiplied abundantly.
As a kid, Aban aunty says he was ‘reasonably well behaved’ and would never do mischief that would hurt anyone. Aban Aunty recollects how when he was being taught in school what a doctor or a nurse or a shopkeeper is, he was asked what is a Carpenter. Pat came the reply, one who paints cars… There started the trend of the Q n A sessions which are today world famous all over the universe.
He is one of the finest story tellers I know of and of course the most prolific story makers I know of. Stories simply happen around bau. A story goes how this little dog was chased by some other dogs and Bau whistled and he just came running to him and jumped into his lap. Bau got him home and along with his sister Perviz gave him a shampoo, a bath and through combined connivance got the rest to accept him as part of the family. He became Bobby, one of the cutest dogs I had the pleasure of meeting. Along with everyone else in Batliwala household, Bobby also turned utterly vegetarian (by choice!) and a fervent Satsang addict (with Shiva songs as his favorites).
Bau himself never used to like non-veg (meat). And he used to loathe, abhor and detest eggs which are a fairly staple diet in a parsi house. Maybe some remnant Buddhist genes made him fight for fish (pomfrets and prawns only) with perviz on many a family weddings. That too, he would like the gravy much more than the fish…

Aban aunty tells me how, he at 6, by fluke he got onto a live radio show by playing in a guitar band. Two broken guitars later he turned his attention to piano. Though they could not afford one that time, his yes-consciousness was so strong, they bought a second hand piano which he wanted with the exact money Yezdi uncle could keep aside for it.
He also collected money by giving tuitions and delivering tiffin boxes to office goers in town side Mumbai. His went to one of the best Piano teachers in his colony and she loved his spontaneity with the music he played for her, and very soon he became one of her most favourite students. Even though she passed away, Bau speaks of Mehru aunty with such respect and affection while teaching me piano…
Out of his innate sincerity, he would ask uncomfortable questions to his teachers and when they would complain to the parents about him being cheeky and uncontrollable, his equally cheeky parents retorted, “Why do you think we have sent him to you?!”.
When Yezdi uncle would wrestle with him, pin in down and ask him who he belongs to expecting and encouraging him to say, ‘I belong to daddy’, Khurshed would always say, “I belong to everyone”. He simply could never say that he belonged only to his dad.
The only person in the world his nephews are scared of is Khurshed mamu. One raised eyebrow or a finger and they will stop in mid howl and tears will instantaneously vaporize. His reputation precedes him. Stories of his Rudra rupa are far too many. Not all of them are false But nowadays people are missing that on his courses and Bau blames it on aging. The only sign of aging on Bau is his silver white Gandalfish hair.
He dropped out of a prestigious coaching class (Agrawal Classes. which was very difficult to get into) just because they were teaching him to learn stuff by heart. When asked for a illegal donation for his admission in college Khurshed simply walked off. When he went to apply for his driving license, he was refused since he did not look 18 (same story now, he doesn’t look 40). So he gave a little money and got a wrong birth certificate made and tried to expose that person by going to a reporter friend of Aban aunty’s.
Bau’s stories during IIT are legendary. You got to be on a dozen courses of his to have a fair sampling of them. And though people may have heard a story 100 times, yet his spontaneity and style of telling makes it seem just as thrilling or funny as if hearing it for the first.
This is how I saw him (and Him) first… What a perfect introduction he was for the Guru – wise and witty, dynamic and cool (Bau once got a compliment from American teenagers he took a session for, “This dude is awesome, infact he is beyond cool”)…
Guruji says learn team work from the Japanese, Precision from the Germans, Presentation and Marketing from the Americans, Frankness and Warmth from the Africans, Etiquette and Manners from the British and Human and Spiritual Values from the Indians. Doesn’t that make Bau Japanese, German, American, African, British and an Indian all rolled in one?!
One may add French and Italian too, given his penchant for cheese, olive oil and his cool looks. He holds the YES!+ or the Art of Living team together with such love and personal attention and quality time (not to mention food), that we are left with no choice but to blossom and carry forward the tradition.
Given Bau’s talents, someone expressed he is one of the most under marketed personalities in the world, and that he should be on every radio or television channel possible… And I am sure, with a little prodding or praying from our side, it will happen…
Bau has an eye for beauty and detail, a taste for the ultimate and the exotic, an ear for the subtlest and the melodic… Most things around him have a graceful understated elegance.
Guruji is the One who has made me cry the maximum (such helpless and abundant tears of gratitude), and through Bau, he has made me laugh the most. Four glorious decades of this being on the planet, about half of them serving everyone artfully, stomachfully and gracefully – What a wonderful treat it is to have Bau in our lives!!!

No words to describe how this angel named Bau has touched my life… I still remember how in my first YES!+ course, after an out-of-the-world Kriya experience, I went to the ever radiant Bau and all I could say was “Thank you”… He patted me on my cheek and said “You are welcome.”
Three years later,when I taught my first YES!+, a couple of weeks ago, I stood there blank, thinking how am I going to do this… I just closed my eyes and said “Jai Guru Dev!”… In a flash, memories of my first YES!+ and the magnificent Bau came to my mind… The way he talked, the way he walked, the dignity with which he represented The Seat… and then I conducted the course confidently knowing that I am part of this great lineage, disciple of this great eternal Master… and student of this great teacher Bau…
Thanks a ton Bau for coming in my life… and walking me through the doors of heaven into HIS Lap!!!

When Bau travels 10kms, his stories travel a 1000! Many years ago, my friend told me to check out this “cool IITian” on a cool course called the “DSN”! I said No, and somehow ended up going and taking the course (wonder what pulled me;). After one session, when I was bitten by the ‘Bau Bug’, I went to Devang and told him I wanted to meet Bawa. He took me in Bawa’s room where Bau was happily sitting, with a slice of pizza in one hand and playing a game on his laptop with the other! I was vowed!!! I had never seen such a genuine, supercool “spiritual teacher”!!
I have had 3 turning points in my life. The 1st when i was ‘So-Humed’, the 2nd when i met Guruji, and the 3rd when I took my DSN with Bawa!!!
Bawa says, “There is a method to my madness”. I don’t know if it is madness, sheer genius, or is it got something to do with being Parsi;) whatever it is – it rocks!! and it lights our lives with wisdom and love – makes it worth living!!
40 years have gone, and may 40 more come! Thousands have been guided, and may a million more come!

On my first ever AOL course, at PDS 2006 I had tears in my eyes when I first saw Guruji (i was his most ardent criticizer earlier).. After Jai Jai Radha Raman.. Guruji left.. Uncle aunties too started leaving from exits but youngsters aged 18-30ish something were running in flocks towards the stage as though listening to some tunes of Pied piper of Hamelien… i caught hold of one kid..
asked him if there was some problem?
this guy as if bitten by some mad bug says no no.. i m just going there to hug Bawa…
Bawa? Bawa who?
No reply..
So I said lets go and see who is this Bawa.. He was there.. i went I saw and i fell in love with him… and thank you Guruji for making Bawa part of my life..
That day three things happend that were totally Dil-logical..
I had tears in my eyes when I got Gurujis Glimpse..
I went and hugged Bawa..
Ever since that day I turned vegeterian by choice.. happily..

Life around Bau is like a gazillion dollar combo of 70% romantic comedy and 30% action thriller! He’s among the few people I want to be a xerox of ( I have already begun by growing my hair and eating mock meat;)). Bau’s my Sri-Sri-in-disguise who I can hug and laugh and whine to on a weekly basis.

Bau bringed me back to the path….In 1997-98. I was working in Voltas Ltd. Mumbai. I did my basic course in 1995 in Indore with Bharat Bhaiyya( Swami Brahmatej) & Sanjitha Didi.
I was moving somewhere in Mumbai & I dont recollect exactly ..than I saw a small poster of Art of living & the contact no. below it.I called on the no & the Bau explained me his address for the followup & Satsang. His house was behind the fire temple in Fi Garden Parsi Mohalla Dadar.I met him first time in his house & done the Kriya & used to attend the satsang. Than one day Bau Called me for Satsang with Guruji in Ghatkopar Mumbai in 1998. I met Guruji first time because of Bau.Because of that poster & his no… I came again back to AOL.Than after long……time I become Part 1 teacher in 2007…… Jai Gurudev…..& Many Many Happy Returns of the day Bau ….We love you & Belongs to you.

I still remember when I first saw Bau just one year ago in ashram in Navratri. I thought I will go and talk to him and greet him and hug him and many more…. I was so excited to meet him. And finally, the 2 year long wait came to end, when I got the news that Bau has called all YES!+ volunteers in VM. I went there. The first glimpse and I was like…. stunned. The glow on this person’s face was enormous. I was delighted to the core. And believe me, I could not utter a single word. I was running after him just to have a look at him again & again.
And when I again met him after 3 months in June in Delhi, I could just say ” Jai Gurudev Bau” and hugged him. And he hugged like I felt so much peace inside. It was just “Wow” feeling..!!!
Would love to meet, talk, hug you again & again & again &….till infinity

Even before I did my first course with you, I had read your blog and heard about you from SO MANY people. At satsangs in Thane, girls would scream when a teacher would mention your name.
My curiosity peaked when I saw you at the Pranayam Dhyaan Shibir in Mumbai in Feb/March 2008. I knew who you were, but was too shy to approach you and talk…I was standing for over 20 minutes observing you from a distance; and you were talking to some student of yours and later shouting at her for some apparent misconduct…And man were you loud and you totally scared the hell out of me…I thought, ‘Oh, is he like that with all his students?’ Why are kids mad about him? I was intrigued. Despite my initial ‘fear’ I wanted to do a course with you and know you better.
I was ecstatic when your DSN this May was about to be conducted in Goregaon. Finally I’ll meet Bawa I thought!! And alas, I had a minor foot surgery scheduled on the same day as the DSN had to begin. And people told me, Bawa is VERY particular about making it to the DSN on time. I prayed and somehow, everything went smooth…With a limping leg I made it to the DSN, ON TIME. I kind of had that impression within me, like with you around, a volcano could erupt any moment…but that never happened! Oh you were like the epitome of everything opposite of what I felt when I saw you during that PDS! Ever-smiling, ever joyful…’LOVE was all around us’ in your presence
I only wished then that the discussions and knowledge sessions would go on and on…And on the final day, I miraculously stopped limping, the pain in my foot was gone! You read about these ‘miracles’ but when they happen to you, it’s an unbelievable feeling!
Yearning to meet you again! And I’ll surely do many more courses with you. I just read Guruji’s quotes on ‘Gratitude’ yesterday, that to thank someone implies separation. I hope I didn’t comprehend it wrongly, and hence I don’t think I should ‘Thank you’ coz I would like to have a feeling of oneness with a great soul like yours. Genuine respect, genuine admiration, immense love and a sense of belonging…that’s how I’d sum up my feelings for you!
Pray that you continue inspiring many others, for a LOOOOOOOONG time to come!

…. Oh my god … That was the moment I mentally prostrated in front of him …..
One of my friend who did Art of Living course b4 me was telling me that there is a great senior teacher in Art of living and he’s about 35 !! I was kinda wondering how a “senior teacher” can b 35??? My vision was of a 60 year old …
But the day I saw him first … My friend Rahul Soundarrajan told a group of us that he’ll take us to meet Bawa and Dinesh …. I saw him first in front of Shakti kutir .. He was climbing down the steps of Shakti Kutir with long flowing hair … and at first I thought him to b a foreigner …. I asked Rahul .. “Is he really Indian??
Then a couple of meetings with him and I was just bowled over by his wit and spontaineity ….
This reminds me of one situtation I still cherish and also I don’t know how many times I’ve actually shared this to many many of my friends ..
I was in TTC2 in ’07 and Bau had been asked to conduct a communication seminar for us and someone asked Bau what is the secret of an effective communication … and what Bau answered for this literally blew my mind off and had me rolling on the floor .. BAU says .. “People don’t come to you to listen to some fart of your’s”
As Dinesh anna says … he’s the best story teller of all times … so beautifully placed words and his expressions ….

I did my TTC phase-1 Nov. 2003 with Bau. Before that I had heard a lot about him but that was the first time I saw him in person. I was totally mesmerized by his live wire energy. He made us laugh & he made us cry and we couldn’t have enough of him. If he would be late for the session, we would worry that he wouldn’t come. Didn’t want to miss even a single moment with him. One very beautiful session I remember with him, we were to express ourselves with any sound but legible words.The entire group was rolling around on the floor with laughter & he so beautifully put the point across, love has no language or barriers.
